UX

August 18, 2016

I recently watched Fuck Drop Downs, a wonderfully put together presentation about a dying UI element. If you haven’t watched it, I highly recommend it. Eric Campbell and Golden Krishna exemplify what presenting should be, so it’s worth watching even if you don’t know or care about what a drop down is.

Since watching it, I’ve noticed I’m pushing myself to use elements that might make more sense than a drop down in many cases. So, thanks for that you two.

I’ve also found myself taking a particularly keen notice to drop downs across the internet, albeit on desktop, mobile, iPad, etc.

While filling out an application for a new apartment for Benton, Beth and I, I came across this beaut. The ol’ “you can’t choose your actual birth month until you take the second step of choosing your birth year.”

It makes total sense.

And while this isn’t a drop down, I thought I’d leave it here as it was part of the same flow a screen or two later.

Yep, that checkbox is inactive, yet checked. It looks like I’ll be clicking an unsubscribe link sometime in the near future. #SMH

Silly designers.
